Sunday before Thanksgiving began with a soup making session in the morning… using short-ribs, meatballs, roasted tomatoes and onions ( frozen from the summer garden ) and other vegetables, etc. My son was at Army drill and would be over to eat later on…another one was due to stop by, and I had the grandkids for the afternoon.
This weekend was fairly mild ( around 50 degrees ) and I thought that it would be nice to take the children out to the Trolley Museum. We’d need some soup before and after!
Oh did it turn out good, too!
Visit the Museum website HERE if you like. Basically, you ‘experience an earlier era’ there. It’s run by volunteers …craftsmen and history buffs alike…vintage trolleys and streetcars are restored and then you ride on them! There are holiday specials…Bunny Trolleys and Santa Trolleys….in December a large back room is filled with trains…I captured a few pictures of the train display before they shut the door on me because technically that is not open until December and they were still working on it.
The first picture that I am going to show you gives you an idea of the era and mood…I loved seeing this because of the old clothing styles. No one was without a hat!
The grandchildren and I met up with my niece and their grandfather for the tour and ride.
Inside they were working on the Christmas train display ( where I snuck a few pictures ) and there is a little gift shop which is where Brent put on that hat which is several sizes too large on his head. Outside there are some picture taking opportunities ( see Kate in her vintage hat, not to be undone by Brent and his conductor one! )
The children had alot of fun on this miniature…
Time for the Trolley Ride !
My beautiful niece and the kids….
Halfway through the ride, the trolley stopped at the display building. We left the trolley to tour the building where the conductor gives historical information in regards to the streetcars and trolleys inside . Here are a few picture collages of some of the streetcars and trolleys that we viewed.
The first street cars were drawn by horses. The museum also stores one of the first cars….which of course later led to the demise of trolleys and streetcars.
After the display building tour, it was back on board the trolley for our return trip.
It was a very enjoyable afternoon.

What a really cool place! I would love to go there someday! and you soup looks very yummy. It has been in the 40s at night and the high 60s in the daytime — and Grandma Kc is not amused! TURN BACK UP THE HEAT!! I know I should complain but it has never stopped me before!
Happy Monday! Oh — your niece is gorgeous by the way!
Oh what fun. The soup looked delicious. We took our grandson a few years back to the Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine, and had a great time too.
What a lovely day this must have been visiting the trolley museum and then home for some good soup! My husband loves old airplanes and autos, and so we’ve been to some of the car and plane museums around where we live. The actual Spruce Goose is in a museum about an hour from here, and we’ve gone to see it! But trains are wonderful as well–we love anything vintage like that!
What a fun outing! I’m with you on that old photo, those styles are so fun to see. I’m wishing hats would come back.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if trolleys were still commonly in use? I’d love to take a trolley ride with my grandsons. Though this looks like the next best thing. Great photos! (And yummy soup, I bet!) Thank you for linking to the GRAND Social! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your lovely family.
The trolleys look like so much fun! Isn’t it wonderful to learn about the ways thing were :)
Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!

I remember trolleys well. Cost 5 cents each trip! I wish they were still in use. Lucky you – Lovely day with the children!
I love soup YUM. And what a fun museum that looks like!
Happy holiday weekend!
Don’t kids just love trains? Older folks too. Your soup sounds wonderful…Winter meals are the best…
