Maple Bonsai: How to Make It by Yourself : Japanese Maple Bonsai Brown Leaves

Maple bonsai is alternative for huge maple tree; it is a nice plant for small residence like small apartment because of its small size. We’ll show you some simple steps you can follow to make your own Japanese maple bonsai here. There are some types of maple tree, choose one you like the most. If this is your first time making bonsai of maple tree, avoid planting red-leafed maple since it is more difficult to plant the red-leafed maple tree.

Instead of making maple bonsai from seed, it is better to make maple bonsai from maple tree’s branch. Cut a good looking branch of maple tree you want in the beginning of summer, and then use that branch to make the bonsai of maple tree. Cut some branches since you don’t know if your first experiment in making bonsai will work well. When you cut the branch of the maple tree, peel its bark and clean the cambium layer.

Processing the Maple Bonsai

Now, you must create the root from the branch you’ve prepared. You’re free to wipe the maple’s branch top cut with rooting gel or dust it with a rutting hormone. Wrap it with sphagnum moss that’s wet before you wrap it using a plastic. Don’t forget to tie the wrapping. Make sure you wet the moss every day. In couple of days, the root will appear through plastic wrapping. You’ll be able to make a perfect maple bonsai by adding compost to your maple branch.

Once you get the root on your maple branch, you can start planting the bonsai of your maple tree. Prepare the pot and fill it with small pebbles and topsoil. Now, before you plant your bonsai, you need to remove the plastic wrap. Do it carefully so that you won’t destroy the root. Finally, plant the maple bonsai to the pot.
