A favorite book here is ‘Five Little Honeybees’, designed by Arlene LeFebre and illustrated by James Croft. It is one of several cute little counting books that I have around the house.
The favorite part is when we say “One BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZED away” !
In the end the little bees are all safely back at the hive.
When I saw a tutorial and stitch along over at Echinops and Aster for a honeycomb pillow with a bee, I thought that it would be fun to make. Jenelle’s tutorial was clear and easy to follow. I am not an expert seamstress ; sewing is always a challenge for me, so I needed a clear tutorial, which she provided.
I did stop the first pillow prior to the pieced border section, as I had a smaller pillow form that I wanted to utilize and this would fit into my grandson’s rocking chair. That pillow has been done for awhile and he was thrilled to find a pillow to go with his book. I took some shots and compiled this collage when I was still in process of working on the second pillow, which did include the border.
I must say at this point please visit Echinops and Aster; her pillow is much more detailed in the matter of embroidery, etc. And many of the participants in this stitch along have just outdone themselves. As for me, I did the minimum since these were going to be heavily used by a rough and tough three year old.
I completed my hand quilting on the second pillow about two weeks ago. On Friday I was babysitting Brent, and we had a rainy morning. I was working on a quick and simple table runner….he was handing me pins and such. I decided to switch gears and finish the pillow while he was here. I skipped the binding portion of the project and just got ‘er done. ( Since he’d been here all day Thursday as well, and we’d done everything under the sun, I got away with the ‘isn’t helping Oma to sew fun’! idea for the moment ( smile )
I want to go back and do another pillow in the future and follow each step to completion but as to these two pillows….my little munchkin is happy with them.
Meanwhile, come to think of it, a great baby gift would be that little book + pillow if you like to sew.
